내 사진이 뭐냐, 생각해보면 99%는 걷다가 찍은 사진이다. 나는 여행이든 산책이든 걷는 중에 사진을 찍는다. 산책도 작은 여행이라 하면 대부분이 도보 여행 사진인 셈이다. 찍기 위해서 걷고, 걷기 위해서 찍는다. 그게 즐겁다.

이번에 살짝 무릎에 부상을 입었었다. 이제는 마음껏 걷지 못할지도 모른다고 생각하니, 너무나도 무서웠다. 부디 오래도록 하루 내내 걸을 수 있는 몸상태를 유지하기를.

Sunday again and still no shot in the box. The weather seemed to be inviting me to take a walk through the city. So I accepted and strolled around, following my whims. Finally, I stopped at the bridge and watched the cars passing by. That's how I ended up with this photo, which I have chosen as my contribution for this week.

I just love seeing people in the streets actually reading something on paper instead of doomscrolling on their phones. I usually don't like to disturb them (plus the fear of asking strangers for their picture), but sometimes I just have to.

Laut Wikipedia macht das die Parliament Street aber nur zur zweitengsten #Straße der Welt. Die engste (offiziell) gibt es wohl in Reutlingen, aber da war ich noch nie. // In Exeter, you'll find #ParliamentStreet, where the distance between the buildings is just 2 ft 1 in at its narrowest. However, the narrowest "street" in the world (officially) is in Reutlingen, Germany, but I've never been.

Feeling generous on #texturetuesday with this small series on artsy visitors walking/standing on the fair square which Katarina Grosse so wonderfully spray-painted for this year's Art Basel (the world's largest art fair: https://www.artbasel.com/basel)

Strikingly, I have no shot of male legs... There were actually many more women walking/strolling/ over the painted square, and I think I spotted more than a pair of Louboutins or similar... Art Basel tends also to be a fashion show.

“Oh See O.C.” — The O.C. McDonald sign in San Jose, California.

This is not the first time I have photographed this sign. I walk a lot, and one of my routes takes me past this place, the site of a venerable light industrial business in San Jose. You've been driving for a while now with only the moon as your guide. The GPS decided to stop working a while back. You usually wouldn't be out this late, but a friend needs you. She sounded a bit upset on the phone, so you agreed to meet her and help replace her tyre. Luckily you have a spare. What’s she doing all the way out here anyway? This was supposed to be movie night.
You start to come into a town. Finally, some civilization. You scan the streets for signs of life – nothing. The place is deserted. Your phone rings. You pick up – it's your friend.
"Where are you? I thought you were coming over this evening?"
"I'm on my way. Do you have your hazards on?"
"What are you talking about? Why would I need hazards in my living room?"
On the corner, a woman appears beneath a flickering streetlamp. She's waving.
The line crackles and cuts out.
You look down at the phone, then back at the corner – she's gone.
The headlights dim. Something creaks in the back seat.
You daren’t look.
You whisper, “It was you who called, wasn't it?”

“Bicycles and Red Door” — Parked bicycles in front of a hotel with a red door and a flowering bush, Montpellier.

What is it about bicycles? They turn up as photographic subjects all the time, on their own and as characters in street photography. (One for my favorite photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson features a bicycle.) It probably has something to do with things they represent or are associated with: a slower pace, the sensations of wind as you ride, closer contact with our surroundings. A cute little door from one of the side streets in the centre. It's a very narrow street and a very narrow door! You don't often see green doors around here, so it does stand out! There's a close-up of the horse door knocker too! ✨

I'm no horse anatomist but a fetlock is essentially a horse ankle. Thanks to the Eurovision contestants Fr. Ted and Fr. Dougal for the inspiration. 🎶
