Channel Islands Guernsey

The Channel Islands are an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They are divided into two Crown Dependencies: the Bailiwick of Jersey, which is the largest of the islands; and the Bailiwick of Guernsey, consisting of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and some smaller islands. Historically, they are the remnants of the Duchy of Normandy.

Gorey is a market town in north County Wexford, Ireland. It is bypassed by the main M11 Dublin to Wexford road. The town is also connected to the railway network along the same route. Local newspapers include the Gorey Guardian.

Guernsey is the second-largest island in the Channel Islands, located 27 miles (43 km) west of the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy. It is the largest island in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which includes five other inhabited islands – Alderney, Herm, Jethou, Lihou and Sark – and many small islets and rocks. The bailiwick has a population of 63,950, the vast majority of whom live on Guernsey, and the island has a land area of 24 square miles (62 km2).

A week ago, I visited a center with a couple of my friends (@amrtf & @sz). It's the first time Renfe opens up these places to outsiders, so we couldn't miss it.

It was fascinating to see how the trains were disassembled so that they could be repaired. However, we all noticed how the facilities have long been undersized, compared to the Catalonian rail network.

A Renfe class 448 EMU sits on top of some elevated rails, so that workers can inspect it from below, inside a huge industrial warehouse.

Because of its immense size and power, the #4006 and 24 sister unites were nicknamed "Big Boy". Building in 1941 by American Locomotive Company, it was used by Union Pacific to haul heavy freight trains through the Rocky Mountains from Cheyenne, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah. It 132-foot length, weighing 1.2 million pounds, could reach a top speed of 80 miles per hour and a maximum of 6,900 horsepower. Eight of the original locomotives are still in existence.

This was taken recently from a small train exhibit in Maine. I was on the back of a train on a small platform and took this while kneeling down under a part of the exhibit towards the back of another train

FCC class 400 ("") at les Planes. this train is a local celebrity, every time it comes out people are fascinated by it

A FCC class 400 "frog" train arriving at les Planes station, from the FGC depot in Rubí, in the middle of the vegetation of the Collserola park. It's a three-car set with white-and-green carriages which, combined with the round front lights, make it resemble a frog.
